Almost all of my life I've made my living with words, writing scripts on a wide variety of subjects ranging from The Great Depression to testing cooking oil, from the home front in World War II to foreign object debris in aircraft. I've also written ads for pea shellers, network control systems, hardware, software, furniture, socks, real estate, jewelry, steel fabricators, schools, and rehab centers, among others. People who've given speeches I've written include top management in fast food companies, large and small air craft manufacturers, plumbing distributorships, cable television operators, and pest control companies.

In all, making a living as a writer is not nearly as difficult as farming or waiting tables. At times I wondered if it was nearly as useful. However, as they frequently say, it paid the bills.
